Best Day Ever: A conversation with Babynetic co-founders Ashley Gooch & Jennifer Zimmer
Episode 14: Navigating Friendship and Entrepreneurship—The Babynetic Journey
Best friends since college, Ashley Gooch and Jenny Zimmer are making waves in the baby industry with their innovative brand, Babynetic. In our conversation, we explore their journey of friendship and entrepreneurship, reflecting on how they started their remarkable careers and the valuable lessons learned along the way. From insightful management strategies to the delicate balance of work and personal life, they generously share their wisdom. I was so glad to be their bestie for the day! Here’s some of their brilliance:
TAM, baby. AG: “We’ve seen a really big shift from millennial and now Gen Z parents. They’re taking their kids out. They’re wanting to do things. They’re not just in the house. So products need to innovate. We need to change the way we look at baby gear and think of it. We need baby gear that can evolve with us.”
Own your strengths. JZ: “There are things that I know Ashley is really, really good at and vice versa, and we just let each other just run with it and trust one another enough that we’re going to execute because that’s who we are. And there’s never been any type of pause there, which I think is really unique.”
In the early days of a brand, get your hands dirty. AG: “In the beginning, your hands are going to be in every bucket, right? But I think that’s really healthy. I think it’s healthy in the sense that when it comes time to delegate, you know what the role requires.”
On Juggling. JZ: “Prioritization is definitely key… we’re always juggling, right? Some balls are glass, and some are rubber. You can drop the rubber ones and they’re going to bounce back up—but which ones are the glass ones?”
Creating Culture. JZ: “I want to influence the dialogue about making life with children easier and more accessible in all aspects. Product safety, paternal leave policies, things like that. I aspire to be on the forefront of these conversations, advocating for change for families. Ultimately, our main vision is to set new standards in the baby gear market.”
Crafting a Rule of Life. AG: “What is your rule of life and your life mission statement? Put that together and then once you’ve established it, view your life through that lens. Filter everything through that. Does this align with how I want to spend my time, my money, my resources, my gifts and talents?”
Mic Drop Moment. JZ: “You are who you surround yourself with.”
I found this conversation incredibly impactful. I’m so glad I choose to surround myself with women like Ashley and Jenny. It’s been a joy to contribute, even in a small way, to the launch of Babynetic, and I’m eagerly anticipating what the future holds for these two remarkable individuals.
