Moodboarding.
So you’ve got a million ideas and a vision. Here’s why we moodboard, and how to do it right.
When a consumer buys a product, whether in-store or online, it’s a completely visual experience. All the “talk” in the world won’t change this. That’s why it’s crucial to think about how your brand will express itself visually, right from the start. Your visual brand identity not only informs your products, but your brand statement as well. If you’re just starting out, a moodboard is a fun way to dive in.
You can use tools like Google Slides, Canva, or even Pinterest to gather inspiration and create different boards. Don’t be afraid to get creative and pull any visuals that speak to you.
Then, it’s time to ask some key questions and narrow down your options. If the images don’t answer key questions about your brand identity, they’re not necessary. Try and get it down to one sheet at the end of the process so that you’re crystal clear on your brand’s vision.

At our agency, we had the pleasure of working on branding for WundaCore. We helped WundaBar founder Amy Jordan launch her consumer brand with her first product, The Resistance Ring. To create a stellar identity for WundaCore, we looked at other brands in the fitness space and asked ourselves:
What are they saying about fitness? And what did WundaCore want to say to differentiate?
How is exercise/using WundaCore products supposed to make you feel?
Who is using the product?
What kind of community are we trying to build?
Our answers led us to the conclusion that exercise should feel good from the inside out. WundaCore is a brand that emphasizes the importance of an internal experience over superficial results. The goal is meaningful movement for longevity, not just rock-hard abs. This messaging inspired WundaCore’s tagline: “Movement for the future.”
The final moodboard looked incredible and helped to inform the product color palette, brand guidelines, and packaging.
So there you have it—remember the importance of your brand’s visual identity and how it may communicate your brand’s message and values to your customers. Use a moodboard to get started, ask yourself the hard hitting questions, and narrow down your vision to create a clear and impactful identity.
We'd love to see some of your moodboards and hear your thoughts on the process. We’ll be sharing some more examples on our TikTok this week.
Launching a consumer goods company can be daunting. I built and scaled an 8-figure brand from my kitchen and we made a ton of mistakes before getting a lot of our wins. When we talk to other founders, we realize they collectively share many of the same struggles. Two years ago, we started Mvnifest: a company born of wanting to make everything easier for other consumer brands. We manage every aspect of the consumer goods brand lifecycle, from ideation to fulfillment, and are the swiss army knife in your favorite brands’ back pockets. We’re waxing poetic on some of our favorite industry trends, tips, and takeaways for consumer goods brand builders, founders, and the teams behind them.
